Win a Handcrafted Wooden Boat Model

Each year, the Wooden Boat Centre raffle gives you the chance to take home a piece of maritime craftsmanship, and this year, we’re doing something a little different.

Instead of a full-sized dinghy, we are raffling a beautifully handcrafted wooden boat model. Built with the same care, traditional techniques, and attention to detail that define our full-scale vessels, this model captures the spirit of wooden boatbuilding in a form you can display and enjoy every day.

It’s more than a model: it’s a celebration of heritage skills, patience, and craftsmanship.

A piece of history to treasure

The Wooden Boat Centre’s own master carpenter Tim spent over 140 hours creating this beautiful piece of art. A recreation of William Bligh’s launch, used following the Mutiny on the Bounty when he was set adrift along with 18 loyal crew members.

They had few provisions: 70kg of sea biscuits and 10 kg of salt pork to eat, to drink they had 130 litres of fresh water, six bottles of wine and, all importantly, 7 litres of navy rum. To navigate they only had a quadrant and a compass, they were not allowed any charts but fortunately Bilgh’s almanac was allowed on board. This allowed Bligh to recognise landmarks he had previously recorded and thus navigate the boat.

This is regarded as one of the epic journeys in naval history, covering 6,500 kilometres in an open boat on a trip that lasted 47 days.

Keen on a full size dinghy?

Our full year students are working now on a Foster10 in Huon pine and we will be starting the sale of raffle tickets for the dinghy soon!
