FULL DAY LANDING NET COURSE
Join us for a hands-on, immersive experience in the traditional craft of landing net making. This full-day course delves into the time-honoured techniques used by boatbuilders, blending craftsmanship and nature’s finest materials.
Throughout the day, you’ll be guided through the art of steam bending, a classic technique used to shape wooden components with precision and care. We will focus on using traditional boat-building woods such as Huon Pine and King Billy Pine—timbers renowned and loved for their strength, flexibility, and beautiful grain. You’ll learn how to carefully craft each piece with hand tools like spoke shaves and hand planes, a perfect introduction to the art of woodworking. You’ll also get a knowledge of wood glues, learning how to choose and apply the right adhesive to ensure lasting durability in your net frame.
The course runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm with breaks to ensure a relaxed, enjoyable learning experience. Whether you're a beginner or have some woodworking experience, this course offers a perfect blend of tradition and technique. By the end of the day, you’ll leave with your very own hand crafted landing net and a deeper appreciation for Tasmania’s rich history of boat building.
Come and immerse yourself in a day of hands-on woodcraft!
