TWO WEEK GREEN WOOD COURSE

Embark on a journey into the world of traditional green woodworking with our in-debt Green Wood Course. This immersive workshop will introduce you to the age-old techniques used to craft functional, beautiful furniture, all while working with local Tasmanian timbers.

Throughout the course, you’ll discover the benefits of working with green wood—freshly cut, unseasoned timber that’s full of life and rich in moisture. Green wood is easier to shape and carve, allowing you to work with the natural grain and shape the wood with minimal tools, making it a perfect material for creating sturdy, ergonomic pieces like the shipwright's stool or occasional table.

You’ll work with some of Tasmania’s abundant tree species, carefully selected for their strength, colour and durability including dogwood and pinkwood. Using traditional shipwright’s tools such as draw knives and spoke shaves, you’ll learn to shape and refine your stool while gaining insight into sustainable, craft-focused woodworking methods.

Week one will focus on getting comfortable with tools and working together to make green wood shave horse. Once completed you will be ready and warmed up to create your own unique piece of green wood furniture.

This special one-off course runs from Monday the 23rd of July to Friday the 1st of August from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with breaks to ensure you stay energised and engaged throughout the day. Whether you’re a seasoned woodworker or a beginner, this workshop offers a fulfilling, hands-on experience that will leave you with a beautifully crafted stool and a deeper understanding of the rewarding process of green woodworking.
