TWO ISLANDS

The wooden ship's skeleton portion of the 'Two Islands' public art work by Nigel Helyer was manufactured at the Wooden Boat Centre in 2018.  Nigel Helyer's artwork was inspired by Sir John Franklin's ill fated expedition through the NorthWest Passage in the Canadian Artic in his ships's Erebus and Terror in 1842. The project was commissioned by Hobart City Council.

St Ayles Skiff - FREYJA

The third skiff for Franklin, this one was built at the WBC in early 2016 for members of the Living Boat Trust (LBT).  She joined the LBT’s fleet of St Ayles Skiffs with Imagine (the first St Ayles Skiff built in Australia) and Billie. They are all well-used as community rowing boats for fun and fitness and as part of the international St Ayles Skiff Regatta circuit. Feel like a row? Just join the Living Boat Trust and you can be one of the crew, come out on a social row on the Huon River or join an excursion. Most recent excursions have been to Lake Pedder, Gordon River and Pieman River.

The Hobart Airport Biosecurity Counter

This counter was commissioned by Misho and Associates, the architects overseeing the Hobart Airport upgrade. Planked in King Billy Pine with a Celery Top Pine laid deck, this counter made a stylish statement about Tasmania's craft, special timbers and island status. The latest upgrades to the airport seem to have lost this counter!
