Take a drive over the range South of Hobart and come and view the amazing Huon Valley. As you cross over the range past Sleeping Beauty Mountain, you drop into the lush greenness of the Huon. This is an area to enjoy slowly taking in all it has to offer, by stopping for a few days in one of the many accommodations available.

As you reach Huonville, you can branch out to Ranelagh, Glen Huon and all the amazing farming areas to the west. Heading south again, you will begin your journey along the Huon River that on a still day will wow you with it’s amazing reflections. This river was the ‘work horse’ of the valley back when barges were used to transport all the apples and produce to market.

Stop and catch your breath in Franklin, tour the Wooden Boat Centre and have a well earned cuppa, in one of the many cafes and restaurants. Take the historic walk, that has some of the oldest buildings in Tasmania in the main street, or walk along the foreshore, or even bring a picnic to enjoy beside the river whilst you gaze on the dinghies and boats.

Continue on your journey through to Port Huon, Geeveston, Castle Forbes Bay, Dover & Southport. You can travel to the amazing forests west of Geeveston, all the while during winter gazing upon snow on Hartz Mountain as you head south.

It does not stop there as Hastings Caves Reserve is further south and well worth the visit. Your journey will eventually come to Cockle Creek, where there are some amazing walks to be taken. Then begin the slow wind back up the road, heading North by dropping into all the little areas you did not see on your way south.

Collect all types of seasonal fresh local produce on the side of the road, to enjoy on your journey.
