Wooden Boatbuilding: Craft Career Course


This 2 year course is designed to instruct students in most aspects of wooden boatbuilding.  With adequate time to practice skills to become adept in fine wood working skills that can be applied to wooden boatbuilding or associated wood craft.  The course includes specific build tasks : 

  1.  THE  BOATBUILDER ’S  TOOL  CHEST
  2.  STITCH AND  GLUE  PLYWOOD  CONSTRUCTION
  3.  CLINKER  DINGHY  CONSTRUCTION
  4.  CARVEL  CONSTRUCTION
  5. MAST AND SPAR MAKING
  6.  STRIP  PLANKED  CONSTRUCTION
  7.  HERITAGE  RESTORATION
  8.  BOAT FINISHING
  9.  WORKING IN  PRODUCTIVE  TEAMS
  10.  PROJECT  MANAGEMENT  SKILLS FOR THE  BOATYARD

Student training will be led by our lead instructor but will also include practical experience working on a range of restoration and new build projects that come into the boat shed.  A portfolio/digital diary of evidence of student work will be compiled throughout the course.
